Thanksgiving

We had a great Thanksgiving weekend. It started Wednesday when we took to the highway and headed north. At around noon we reached Norfolk, VA and took the famous Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. It's always fun to be on a bridge when you can't see the land on the other side. Later that afternoon we reached the home of a friend whom I hadn't seen in many years. We met his lovely wife and beautiful kids, enjoyed some delicious snacks, shared stories, looked at pictures from the past, and caught up on how life had been for each other. It was really great to see my old friend and know that his life is great and that he is happy.

We proceeded on to my aunt and uncle's house on the east shore of Maryland. We were the first to arrive but were soon joined by my cousin and her family, another cousin and his wife, and finally by my parents. We stayed up too late but still got up early enough to get to work on the big Thanksgiving feast. It was great to have all ten adults and all five kids at the same table for dinner. We had the typical fare, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, scalloped corn, sweet potatoes and waldorf salad. Then we took a break before having pumpkin pie. We watched a little football, much to the chagrin of my aunt (our hostess), but it was great bonding time for the sports fans in the family. Friday we ate leftovers, played duets at the piano, played at the park with the kids and stayed up too late again. Saturday morning was a big family breakfast all around the table then we packed up and left. We drove home a different route than we had come and it was fun to cross new bridges and see new countryside.

We came home to a clear blue sky and a 69 degree day. I'm writing this in front of a fire in the fireplace and enjoying the stocking hung there and the lights on the Christmas tree glowing. Tomorrow I'll start addressing the cards. It was a perfect fall holiday.
