We had a great time over the 4th of July weekend. Since moving so much closer to the coast, we have a hard time deciding to sit with mosquitoes and big crowds to watch fireworks. So this makes our 3rd annual visit to watch the fireworks from the beach with a nice cool breeze coming off the ocean. Even with the ridiculous price of gasoline, we decided to make the drive anyway. It was so worth it. There is really nothing like listening to the sound of the wind and the waves and feeling the warm sun to reduce stress levels. Our kids have a great time trying to build fortifications of sand that will hold back the tide and then watching it all disappear. I think that Christmas is my favorite holiday but the 4th of July is a close second. Shortly after we were married we lived in Upper Arlington, Ohio and the 4th of July parade and fireworks at the park were always a great community event and super fun. We lived next in Ames, Iowa which is everything small town Iowa should be with a great community parade and fireworks near the stadium, plus our ward there had the best 4th of July breakfast ever (no offense intended to any other ward). So we told our boys all the reasons that we celebrate the day and I'm always surprised at their distaste of ever having a king. Our sweet little patriots. I hope your holiday was great as well.
