A couple of friends recently appeared in their local paper as part of a story about couples and "their song". After seeing this Dave and I had a discussion about whether or not we even had a song. We came to the conclusion that we didn't have anything that resembled "our song". Instead we decided that our life was too awesome to have just one tune. We have a soundtrack for our life. Would you like to hear it? Of course you would. So here it is and in chronological order too.
But Not For Me by George Gershwin: Cyndi before meeting Dave. I thought of choosing Alanis Morrisette's You Oughta Know but I wasn't really such and angry man hater, just unlucky in love up to then.
Don't Worry, Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin: Dave before meeting Cyndi. Dave was just home from a mission and still young and carefree.
I Could Write a Book: December 1994, we got married. We didn't start out dating we started out as friends except one of us (Dave) had a huge crush on the other. We went on our first date mid October 15 years ago and were engaged by Veteran's Day and married over Christmas break a few weeks later. I guess when you know, you know. You know?
Hold Me Now by The Thompson Twins: The first couple of years take some adjusting don't they. We didn't really fight it just takes some time to figure out how to work a joint checking account and the schedules of two people in college and working.
The Parting Glass, traditional Irish tune: In the middle of grad school we took a trip to Ireland. It was magical. If we could take our whole family and a select group of friends we'd move there forever.
Carmen Ohio, The Ohio State University alma mater. We both graduated from and loved OSU and Columbus, Ohio. Every Saturday in the fall still includes a football game and we're raising our sons to believe that no other college football program could ever compare.
This Woman's Work by Kate Bush: 1999 we had a boy. The nine months before he was born were unpleasant for everyone but then he was born. A perfect healthy boy, a miracle.
Fields of Gold by Sting. After 5 years of wedded bliss and one beautiful baby, life really seemed like it couldn't be better.
Slumber My Darling performed by Alison Krauss, Yo Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Mark O'Connor: 2003 we had another boy and this is what I sang him to sleep. The second boy came after another difficult nine months but when he came out with red hair and blue eyes it was another miracle. He was also the last child for us and so we feel lucky that both times we were expecting a baby the result was a perfect healthy child.
What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong: We moved to Iowa and it really was our little bit of heaven. We bought our first home and had a perfect small town neighborhood with spectacular neighbors and great soil in the garden. It was the perfect place to put down roots and let them grow.
It Must Be Love by Madness: after 10 years of marriage it was still great! I was finally able to stay at home with the kids all day and play June to Dave's rendition of Ward.
Carolina in My Mind by James Taylor: we moved to North Carolina and love it. Iowa had been so perfect and we only knew that Dave's job was moving and so were we. Since arriving we have discovered the great beaches, mountains, lakes, rivers, barbecue and the kind people that make this truly home now.
Come What May from Moulin Rouge: This December will be 15 years of awesome and many many more to come.
Well that's our last 15 years in a musical nutshell.

Awesome--I don't think Rob and I have a song either. He could probably put together a soundtrack list. If I could choose a band that makes me think about our relationship from beginning stages to now it would be Barenaked Ladies. Rob discovered them and bought most of their old CDs while we were dating. We've gone to their concerts, but their break up/expulsion of Steve does not bode badly for us. I'm sure.
Love this!!!~
